Dazed x Burberry

In partnership with Dazed, Burberry celebrated Pride 2022 through a three-day Whitby Street takeover in London. From 24 – 26 June, collectives and creative communities from the worlds of art, poetry, fashion, beauty, photography, film-making, music, food and more joined together to celebrate and support the LGBTQ+ community.

Exclusive events included a pop-up library and talk curated by PRIM with Ollie Olanipekun from Flock Together, a movement therapy workshop with trans+ model agency WIMP and a host of iconic and up-and-coming DJ sets.

An exclusive mural by poet Kai-Isaiah Jamal and artist Jota Mombaça, which tells a tale of equality, community and love, became a beacon of the celebrations on Whitby Street.

Historically the Burberry check stayed tucked inside a trench. Symbolically walked its way into the runway. Represents what happens when the inside is taken out. When the narrative is flipped about and a new crowd traces their fingers along a red line. In time, the unseen becomes the spoken about, here in London Town where ‘the premium’ is interchangeable with ‘the people’ and the future fashion is fabulous but feasible. A haus cannot be built if the gate is not reachable, the ethos unreadable. A birch check cannot be made without various elements intersecting, community is another word for connecting. And how respecting tradition is sometimes about changing it. And how reflecting a collective is sometimes about renaming it. And how freedom is about reclaiming it, running to the rooftop with your love and exclaiming it.  produce and protect. reimagine and redirect. and how one line running through another is a symbol of love. I’m sure. I’ve checked.

Beauty School Drop-In With Taiba

CEO of KEASH and long-standing Burberry collaborator, Taiba demonstrated the craft behind intricate braiding techniques and led an interactive workshop on the expert braider’s renowned Burberry Check-stencilled hair.

A kaleidoscope of creativity, the event space – which featured a Burberry bar, retro lounge and barber shop – set the tone for a weekend of creative innovation and community.

Breaking Boundaries With Bouquets

Artist and founder of florist Cereus Nights, William Farr hosted an inspiring workshop in which he created boundary-breaking sculptural bouquets using flowers and found objects.
